Organic Wellness Tea—Adrenal Cortisol
Description
Well, That Escalated Quickly Support
DEFCON 1 Blend
WELL, THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY
The alarm didn’t go off. The dog got out. Somebody needs a permission slip signed. The boss wants everything yesterday, and it isn’t even 9 a.m. By lunchtime, your shoulders are up around your ears, your mind won’t downshift, and by bedtime, you’re beyond exhausted but still wide awake.
Granny calls that DEFCON 1. And she has a cup for it.
Adrenal Cortisol is a loose-leaf herbal tea featuring seven organic botanicals, including five traditionally used as adaptogens. Carefully blended for a comforting daily tea ritual, these herbs bring your body down off high alert and back to steady ground. These are seven of the hardest-working stress herbs God gave us, working together in one flavorful cup at a time.
Because sometimes, before you tackle the next thing on that never-ending list, you need to sit down, take a breath, and let the kettle do its thing.
WHAT CORTISOL IS AND HOW STRESS AFFECTS THE BODY
Cortisol is a hormone produced by two small glands called the adrenal glands, which sit atop your kidneys. It plays important roles in the body's stress response, energy regulation, blood sugar management, and sleep-wake cycle.
Cortisol isn't the enemy. Your body needs it. Levels naturally fluctuate throughout the day, typically rising around the time you wake up and declining as evening approaches.
Ongoing stress can affect sleep, energy, mood, and overall well-being. You may recognize some of these familiar complaints:
- Waking up tired, even after a full night's sleep
- Restless nights or waking with a racing mind
- Feeling wired but tired
- Craving sweets or reaching for another cup of coffee
- Brain fog, irritability, or difficulty concentrating
- Feeling worn down after a demanding stretch
The goal isn't to eliminate cortisol. The goal is the right amount at the right time: up when you need it, down when you don’t. It's to support healthy daily habits that help you manage stress, including adequate rest, balanced meals, hydration, and time to unwind.
And Granny would like to remind you that taking a few minutes for yourself isn't laziness. It's good sense.

WHAT'S IN IT AND WHY
ASHWAGANDHA ROOT
Ashwagandha has a long history of use in traditional Indian herbal practices and is widely studied for its potential role in stress and sleep support. It brings an earthy character to this blend. Granny says it's a reminder to slow down and stop treating every little thing like a five-alarm fire.
TULSI (HOLY BASIL) LEAF
Known as holy basil, tulsi holds an important place in traditional Indian wellness practices. Its aromatic, slightly peppery character adds warmth and depth to the cup. It's a lovely herb to reach for when you're making a little room for a quieter moment.
LICORICE ROOT
Licorice root has a long history of use in traditional herbal preparations. It contributes a naturally sweet flavor that helps round out the more earthy and spicy notes in this blend.
A little caution from Granny: Licorice root can affect blood pressure and potassium levels and may interact with certain medications. This tea is not appropriate for everyone.
ELEUTHERO ROOT
Sometimes called Siberian ginseng, eleuthero has traditionally been used in herbal preparations intended to support stamina and resilience during demanding periods. Its earthy flavor complements the other roots in this blend.
AMERICAN GINSENG ROOT
American ginseng has a history of use in traditional herbal practices. It contributes an earthy, slightly bitter note to the blend and is commonly included in herbal preparations intended to support general vitality.
SCHISANDRA BERRY
Known in traditional Chinese herbal practices as the five-flavor berry, schisandra is recognized for its distinctive combination of sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and pungent notes. Its complex flavor adds depth and a lovely rose-amber hue to the brewed tea.
GINGER ROOT
Ginger brings a familiar, warming spice to the cup. It complements the earthy roots and adds a bright, comforting finish to this herbal blend.
Adaptogens are plants that teach the body to handle stress. They aren’t uppers or downers. They’re balancers; they bring a system that’s off its rhythm back to the middle. Licorice and Ginger are the backbone. Licorice takes on the worn-out, running-on-empty end of stress. Ginger warms you up and gets your circulation moving, so Ashwagandha, Tulsi, Eleuthero, American Ginseng, and Schisandra get where they’re going. Give it three weeks of daily cups. That’s when it takes hold, and people start telling Granny they feel human again.
HOW TO MAKE IT
- Measure: Use 1 tablespoon (approximately 3 g) per 8 oz cup.
- Heat: Bring water to just below boiling.
- Steep: Cover and steep for 10 minutes.
- Strain: Remove the herbs and enjoy.
Roots take their time, and covering your cup helps retain heat and aroma while the herbs steep.
FOR A DEEPER CUP
Prefer a stronger brew? Simmer the tea gently on the stove, covered, for 10 minutes instead of steeping. This method brings the ginger and licorice flavors forward and deepens the color from the schisandra berries.
THE SECOND CUP
Want to make the most of your loose-leaf herbs? You can try a second infusion using the same herbs. Pour fresh hot water over them and steep a little longer than you did the first time. The flavor will generally be milder.
KEEPING USED HERBS SAFE FOR A SECOND BREW
Once the herbs have been steeped, don't leave them sitting on the counter all day. Transfer them to a clean, covered container and refrigerate promptly. Use within 24 hours, and discard them if they develop an unusual smell or appearance. Never reuse herbs that have been left out for an extended period.
HOW MANY CUPS?
- First brew: Approximately 15 cups per pouch
- Second brew: Up to 15 additional cups, depending on the amount of tea used and the strength of the infusion
- Potential total: Up to 30 cups per pouch
Actual yield will vary with serving size, measurement, and brewing preferences.
HOW MUCH, HOW LONG, AND WHEN TO TAKE A BREAK
·
Enjoy 1 to 3 cups daily.
·
At 1 to 2 cups a day: enjoy it every day, as long as you like. No break needed.
·
At 3 cups a day: 6 weeks on, then 1 week off, then start again.
·
Give it three weeks of daily cups; that’s when it takes hold.
TAKING A BINDER?
Running a cleanse alongside this tea? Good. Your binder has its own job. Activated Charcoal, Bentonite Clay, and Diatomaceous Earth soak up what a cleanse knocks loose and carry it out of the body. Let it do that job on its own schedule.
Binders grab whatever they touch in your gut, including the herbs in this tea and your tincture.
Keep them apart: Take your binder at least 2 hours before or after your tea and your tincture.
A sample day:
· 7:00 a.m.: first cup of tea
· 3:00 p.m.: second cup of tea
· 7:00 p.m.: third cup, if you’re drinking three
· Bedtime: binder, at least 2 hours after your last cup and your last meal
Managing stress while completing a cleanse can be demanding. Keep the adaptogens and binder on separate schedules so each can do its job.
WAYS TO ENJOY IT
SAME CUP, SAME HOUR
A daily ritual can be a wonderful way to make space for yourself. Choose a time that works for your routine, prepare your tea, and give yourself a few quiet minutes to enjoy it.
THE THREE O'CLOCK CUP
When the afternoon slump hits, take a break from the to-do list. Brew a cup, stretch your legs, and give yourself a moment before moving on to the next task.
GRANNY'S GOLDEN LATTE
Brew the tea a little stronger, fill your cup halfway, and top it with warm milk of your choice. Add a drizzle of honey if desired. Best enjoyed with your feet up.
ICED
Brew the tea, allow it to cool, and pour it over ice with a squeeze of lemon. Schisandra's distinctive flavor makes this a refreshing option for a warm afternoon.
COLD BREW
Add two tablespoons of tea to a quart jar of cold water. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Strain before serving and enjoy chilled.
THE WIND-DOWN
Prepare a warm cup as part of your evening routine. Dim the lights, set aside the day's worries, and give yourself permission to slow down.
WITH WATER
Enjoy water throughout the day, too. Staying hydrated is an important part of general wellness, especially when life gets busy.
PAIRS GREAT WITH GODLY GRANNY GOURMET HONEY
Want to add a touch of sweetness? Stir a little Godly Granny Gourmet Honey into your freshly brewed tea. Its sweetness complements the warming ginger and the distinctive flavor of schisandra.
It's a simple way to make your tea ritual feel extra special. After all, Granny believes that sometimes a little sweetness is just what the day calls for.
BETTER TOGETHER: GODLY GRANNY ORGANIC FULL-STRENGTH ADRENAL CORTISOL TINCTURE BLEND

The tea is your daily ritual—a warm cup enjoyed at the same time each day to help you reset and maintain a steady rhythm. The Full-Strength Tincture Blend offers a concentrated, portable option: a few drops wherever you are, whenever DEFCON 1 hits.
Take them together on the same schedule and keep both at least 2 hours away from your binder. You’re covered from the first cup of the morning to the last meeting of the day. The tea builds the foundation. The tincture brings full strength.
