Description

The Gentle Peace of the Passionflower — Calm, Rest & Ease in Every Drop – Traditionally used to support the body's natural calming pathways, including healthy GABA activity.

The Flower That Carries a Sacred Story

When 16th-century Spanish missionaries first laid eyes on the passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) climbing wild through the Americas, they saw something holy in its intricate bloom. They named it the "flower of the Passion," reading the story of Christ's suffering right there in its petals: the radiant crown-like corona as the crown of thorns, the three stigmas as the three nails, the five anthers as the five sacred wounds, and the surrounding petals and sepals as the faithful apostles. A flower that preached a sermon.

Long before that, the Native peoples of North America — the Cherokee among them — knew the plant (they called it maypop) as a gift for the nerves: a calmer of worry, a bringer of sleep, a settler of the restless mind and body. Generations of herbalists since have crowned it the great nervine — the go-to botanical when the body and mind simply cannot settle.

We capture the aerial flowering herb at full strength in a clean liquid extract — drawing passionflower's calming flavonoids and soothing compounds into a fast-acting tincture you can dose by the drop, exactly when peace is needed most.

Grown organically. Extracted at full strength. Sealed in Miron violet glass to protect the herb's botanical integrity and naturally occurring compounds.

System-by-System Benefits — Every Possible Blessing

Nervous System, Calm & Anxiety — This is Passionflower's Throne

  • One of the most respected natural anxiety-soothers in all of herbalism — in clinical study, passionflower eased generalized anxiety comparably to a prescription anti-anxiety medication, but with fewer side effects and less daytime impairment.

  • Quiets worry, nervous tension, racing thoughts, and that wired, on-edge feeling.

  • Supports a calm, grounded, settled nervous system — the antidote to a mind that won't stop spinning.

  • Traditionally reached for in moments of overwhelm, panic, and emotional storm to bring the body back to center.

Sleep & Restful Nights — The Other Throne

  • A time-honored, non-habit-forming sleep aid that helps you fall asleep faster and sleep more deeply.

  • Shown to increase slow-wave (deep) sleep — the most restorative stage — for mornings that actually feel rested.

  • Calms the bedtime mind-racing that keeps so many people staring at the ceiling.

  • Unlike heavy sleep drugs, it tends to leave no grogginess or hangover the next day.

Stress, Mood & Emotional Balance

  • Eases the frazzled, burnt-out, "running on nerves" feeling of chronic stress.

  • Its gentle mood-lifting character has been associated with relief from low mood and irritability (notably in menopause studies).

  • Helps restore a sense of emotional evenness and resilience when everything feels like too much.

Brain, Focus & the Racing Mind

  • By quieting anxious mental chatter, passionflower helps clear the way for calm focus and clearer thinking.

  • Studied for ADHD-type restlessness, with children's trials showing meaningful benefit — a natural route to settled attention.

  • The everyday payoff: less mental noise, more presence and composure.

Muscles, Spasms & Tension

  • A classic antispasmodic — helps relax muscle tension, cramps, twitches, and spasms, especially the stress-driven kind.

  • Traditionally used for tension held in the neck, shoulders, and jaw (including teeth-grinding and clenching).

  • Soothes restless, jumpy legs and the physical restlessness that rides along with anxiety.

Heart & Circulation

  • Calms a nervous, pounding, or racing heartbeat and stress-related palpitations — working through the nervous system rather than forcing the heart.

  • Traditionally used to gently ease stress-related high blood pressure, helping the whole body relax.

Digestive Comfort — The Nervous Stomach's Friend

  • Passionflower's antispasmodic calm reaches the gut, easing stress-linked digestive upset: cramping, IBS-type spasms, colic, butterflies, and nervous stomach.

  • Helps relax a clenched, knotted belly when tension settles in the digestive tract.

Respiratory & Breath — Traditional

  • Traditionally used for nervous, spasmodic coughs and tension-tightened breathing — its muscle-relaxing character helping the chest and airways soften and open.

  • A time-honored calming aid for whooping-cough-type spasms and bronchial tension (traditional use; not a treatment for respiratory disease).

Natural Pain & Headache Relief

  • Eases tension headaches by relaxing the tight muscles and frayed nerves behind them.

  • Traditionally reached for in nerve pain and neuralgia (including the discomfort of shingles) for its combined calming and antispasmodic action.

  • Helps take the edge off pain that is amplified by stress and sleeplessness.

Women's Wellness — Cycles, PMS & Menopause

  • Its antispasmodic nature helps ease menstrual cramps and the tension of PMS.

  • In menopause studies, passionflower reduced headaches, insomnia, depression, anger, and hot flashes — a gentle ally through the change.

  • A soothing companion for the mood swings, sleeplessness, and frayed nerves that hormones can bring.

Addiction & Withdrawal Support

  • A traditional and studied aid for easing the anxiety, irritability, restlessness, and insomnia that come with tapering off sedatives or withdrawing from alcohol, nicotine, and opioids — smoothing the nervous edges of recovery. (As supportive care, alongside proper medical supervision.)

Antioxidant, Anti-Inflammatory & Cellular Defense

  • Its flavonoid antioxidants help neutralize free radicals and calm low-grade inflammation, supporting cellular health and healthy aging.

Immune Support

  • By restoring deep, restorative sleep and lowering the burden of chronic stress — two things that quietly wreck immunity — passionflower helps the body's defenses stay strong.

Seizure & Over-Excitation Calm — Traditional

  • Historically valued by herbalists as an anticonvulsant and calmer of an over-excited nervous system (traditional use; not a treatment for epilepsy — always under medical care).

And More

  • Restless legs & twitchy nerves: Eases the jumpy, can't-be-still feeling at day's end.

  • Jaw clenching & teeth-grinding: Relaxes the tension we hold without realizing it.

  • Hot flashes & night sweats: Calming support through hormonal surges.

  • Hiccups & nervous tics: Traditional antispasmodic soothing.

  • Blood-sugar balance: Early antioxidant research explores gentle metabolic support (emerging).

Beauty From the Inside Out — Skin, Hair & Nails

Calm is a beauty secret. So much of what shows up on our skin, hair, and nails begins with stress, poor sleep, and inflammation — the very things passionflower soothes.

Skin

  • Calms stress-driven flares — By easing the stress and poor sleep behind breakouts, redness, and dullness, passionflower supports clearer, calmer skin from within.

  • Antioxidant protection — Its flavonoids defend skin cells against the free-radical damage that ages and dulls the complexion.

  • Soothing by nature — Passionflower is prized in skincare for its gentle, anti-inflammatory, calming touch on irritated skin.

  • The beauty of sleep — Deep, restorative rest is when skin repairs and regenerates; better sleep means a fresher, more radiant face.

Hair

  • Less stress shedding — Chronic stress is a well-known trigger of hair fall; by calming the nervous system, passionflower supports a healthier growth environment.

  • Antioxidant scalp support — Helps protect follicle cells from oxidative stress.

Nails

  • Calmer body, stronger nails — Reducing the stress and poor sleep that leave nails brittle, while better circulation and rest support stronger, healthier growth.

Whole-Body Radiance

When the nerves are settled, sleep is deep, and stress is loosening its grip, it shows: softer features, brighter eyes, clearer skin, and the unmistakable glow of a person who is finally rested. Passionflower is beauty through peace.

Why This Passionflower Tincture Is Different

Certified Organic. Clean flowering herb grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or chemical residues.

Full-Strength Extraction. No diluting for cost or shelf-space — a potent, true-to-the-plant liquid extract that captures passionflower's full spectrum of calming flavonoids.

Miron Violet Glass Bottles. Ordinary clear or amber glass lets in the light wavelengths that degrade delicate plant compounds. Miron violet glass filters out the visible light that causes decay while letting in the beneficial UVA and infrared that preserve — protecting the herb's living potency and energetic frequency for 5 to 10 years.

Child-Proof Droppers. Every bottle is fitted with a child-resistant dropper cap — precise dosing for you, protection for the little ones and pets in your home.

Fast Liquid Absorption. A few drops under the tongue or in water go to work quickly — calm that arrives when you need it, no waiting on a pill to break down.

A Final Word from Granny

Peace isn't always found by pushing harder. Sometimes it's found by giving your mind and body permission to slow down.

Passionflower has been cherished for generations as a gentle companion during life's busy seasons. Use it with gratitude, rest well, and trust that God designed our bodies to restore themselves when we give them the chance.

What’s it used for?

What "Full-Strength" Delivers — The Phytochemical Arsenal

Passionflower's gentle power comes from a delicate orchestra of plant compounds working together:

  • Flavonoids (vitexin, isovitexin, chrysin, apigenin, luteolin, orientin) — The calming heart of the plant. Chrysin and apigenin in particular interact with the brain's relaxation pathways to quiet anxiety without heavy sedation.
  • GABA-supporting activity — Passionflower is shown to raise levels of GABA, the brain's primary "calm-down" neurotransmitter that dials down racing thoughts and nervous overstimulation.
  • Harmala alkaloids (harman, harmine, harmaline) — Present in small amounts, contributing gentle mood-lifting, nervous-system-soothing character.
  • Maltol & phenolic compounds — Supporting the plant's relaxing, tension-releasing nature.
  • Antioxidant phenolics — Rounding out a protective, anti-inflammatory profile.

One flower. A whole apothecary of calm. Peace, exactly as nature designed it.

How It Works — The Gift of GABA

Here's the elegance of passionflower: Researchers believe many of passionflower's calming effects are related to its ability to support healthy GABA activity within the nervous system. GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is the body's own natural "brake pedal" — the inhibitory neurotransmitter that quiets an overactive, anxious, racing mind and lets the nervous system downshift. By supporting GABA, passionflower helps the body do what it already knows how to do: let go, settle, and rest — without the fog, dependency, or hangover of heavier options.

Storage & Directions

Directions

Shake gently before each use. Place the drops directly under the tongue, or add them to a little water or warm (not hot) tea. For everyday calm, take during the day as needed; for sleep, take 30–60 minutes before bed. Because passionflower is relaxing, see how it affects you before driving or operating machinery.

Suggested drops by age group:

  • Adults: 30–60 drops, 1–3 times daily, or before bed
  • Seniors: 20–40 drops, 1–2 times daily — start low
  • Teens (13+): 15–30 drops, 1–2 times daily, or before bed

Or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. Start on the lower end and increase gradually to find your gentlest effective amount.

Warnings & Contraindications — Please Read Carefully

Passionflower is gentle and well-loved, but it is a genuinely calming, sedative herb — respect it as such.

  • Drowsiness & driving. Passionflower can cause drowsiness, dizziness, or slowed reactions. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • Do not combine with other sedatives. It can add to the effect of sleep medications, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, other calming herbs (valerian, kava, chamomile), and alcohol — potentially causing excessive drowsiness. Do not mix with alcoholic drinks.
  • Antidepressants & MAOIs. Passionflower contains mild MAO-inhibiting alkaloids. Do not combine with MAOI antidepressants, and use caution with SSRIs or other antidepressants — consult your doctor.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding. Avoid. Passionflower may stimulate uterine contractions and its safety while nursing is not established.
  • Before surgery. Because it affects the central nervous system, discontinue at least 2 weeks before any scheduled surgery (it can interact with anesthesia and sedation).
  • Blood pressure medication. May add to blood-pressure-lowering effects — monitor if you take antihypertensives.
  • Do not use with prescription anti-anxiety or sleep medications without guidance from your healthcare provider.
